Progressing with Paper

This project was part of an Arts Council funded project to ‘‘Develop Your Creative Practice’. Over a period of 10 months I explored different materials and techniques to broaden my skills and develop a more sustainable approach to my work. I consulted with mentors and coaches, undertook a 4 day residency at the Paper Foundation to make hand-made paper out of plant fibres and recycled cloth. I learnt basket weaving and mould making techniques from professional practitioners. I undertook a period of research and development to explore different recycled papers and experimented with sculptural techniques using paper pulp. I developed 5 final pieces of work to conclude the project by making puppets and costumes using the materials and skills I learnt. With this learning I hope to develop future community projects.
